About Warwickshire Symphony Orchestra

Warwickshire Symphony Orchestra, formed in 1940, is one of the foremost symphony orchestras in the Midlands. It attracts expert and committed players from across the region and beyond. 

The orchestra’s principal conductor, appointed in 2014, is Roger Coull. Roger has continued to build on the orchestra’s reputation, sensitively shaping its music-making and refining its high standards. The WSO also works with guest conductors who bring new styles and ideas.   

Over the years, WSO has played with a number of eminent soloists. Notable among these are violinist Callum Smart, soprano Nadine Benjamin MBE, violinist Zoë Beyers and the orchestra’s patron Peter Donohoe CBE. It also gives opportunities to talented young local soloists such as cellist Andrew O’Reilly, and has launched many other young players’ careers.  

Concerts include varied programmes covering a wide range of music. The orchestra’s size makes it possible to play large-scale works such as Mahler and Shostakovich symphonies as well as the classical repertoire. Each year the orchestra performs a themed Family Concert in Leamington’s Royal Spa Centre. This concert includes well-known, popular music performed in a family-friendly atmosphere. WSO has accompanied local and international choirs, and is proud to be associated with Coventry Cathedral Chorus and the Royal Leamington Spa Bach Choir.
